Campus Sustainability Days Oct. 21-23

Several University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student organizations will join colleges and universities around the country for Campus Sustainability Day, recognized Oct. 22, to raise awareness about environmental sustainability on college campuses.

The Conservationists, Foodlums, Hobnailers, and Student National Environmental Health Association will provide displays, speakers, bike repair, recycling, live music and Putnam Trail and Chippewa River cleanup opportunities on campus at various times and locations Oct. 21-23.

Following is a schedule of events:

Tuesday, Oct. 21:

  • 10 a.m.-2 p.m. — UW-Eau Claire's "Green Fleet" of vehicles will be on display on the Campus Mall
  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m. — plastic bag, battery, used cell phone and ink cartridge recycling, Davies Center
  • 4 p.m. — Speaker: Terry Gips, president of Sustainability Associates, Room 2003, Hibbard Hall (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)

Wednesday, Oct. 22:

  • 10:30 a.m-11:30 a.m. — Putnam Trail hike and cleanup, meet at the Clock Tower on the Campus Mall
  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m. — plastic bag, battery, used cell phone and ink cartridge recycling, Davies Center
  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m. — Eau Claire Velo Club will present free bike tune-ups and advice, Campus Mall (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)
  • 11 a.m. — live music by Sustainable Mike and the Green Monsters, Campus Mall
  • 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. — Putnam Trail hike and cleanup, meet at the Clock Tower on the Campus Mall
  • 4 p.m. — Chippewa River cleanup canoeing trip (limited space available), meet at the Clock Tower on the Campus Mall
  • 7 p.m. — UW-Eau Claire's Carbon Footprint Report, Davies Theatre
  • 8 p.m. — movie titled "Sustainable Table," Davies Theatre

Thursday October 23:

  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m. — plastic bag, battery, used cell phone and ink cartridge recycling; Hobnailers display waste from Putnam Trail/Chippewa River cleanup; DNR recycling representative Paul Weigner, Eau Claire County recycling representative Jon Tulman, Campus Mall
  • noon — live music by Sustainable Mike and the Green Monsters, Campus Mall
  • 6:30 p.m. — Ned Noel, city of Eau Claire associate planner, "Factors Driving Sustainability," Room 101, Hibbard Hall
