What do you think about this? One should probably further research if Stout only orders prepared foods or fresh foods to serve in University Dining, what 'local' companies are included in this study and probably many more questions that could better define this designation of 'local'.

A recent analysis of the food purchased by the University of Wisconsin-Stout's dining services found that 37 percent of its $1.58 million annual food budget goes to Wisconsin companies, according to a university news release.

The list of companies patronized by UW-Stout includes food producers and processors that have facilities in the state.

The university's purchases from the companies include:
$211,628 for meat;
$97,518 for dairy products; and
$143,856 for general groceries.

"Buying products from Wisconsin companies not only reduces the distance the food travels, it also supports statewide businesses and encourages business growth in Wisconsin," said Ann Thies, director of University Dining Services.
